For immediate release: November 1, 2024

November 1st, 2024Ottawa – Canadian Parents for French is pleased to announce that a mutual agreement has been reached with the former New Brunswick branch of our organization. As of October 23, 2024, Parents for Bilingual Education New Brunswick will continue as an independent organization with a focus on provincially tailored French language advocacy work, camps and programs in New Brunswick. We extend our best wishes to them as they pursue this new path, and we are excited about the possibilities for collaborative efforts that align with our shared commitment to access to French second-language education programs.

As New Brunswick is the only officially bilingual province in Canada, this transition marks a new beginning for all involved, bringing promising opportunities for growth and expanded programming in New Brunswick. CPF members can continue to count on updates about our nationally recognized programs, such as Dites-le en vidéo, O’Poésie contests, and our free monthly virtual events. Our Halifax office will take an active role in coordinating popular in-person opportunities for youth and families, including the Concours d’art oratoire, set to return in spring 2025, and our Family Fun French Weekends planned in various Atlantic locations in the summer and fall of 2025.

We remain committed to our mission of advancing French second-language learning across Canada. As a non-partisan, charitable organization, we will continue our work to advocate for initiatives that support French teacher retention and other vital resources for French second language education. Members interested in participating can find our latest advocacy campaign at www.SupportFrenchTeachers.ca and can engage with us through our CPF Network Giving Tuesday campaign 2024.

We are confident that this new phase will foster clarity and positive distinction between the two organizations, each now uniquely positioned to deliver high-quality youth and family programming. We look forward to future opportunities to work collaboratively to support bilingual education in this province and across the country.
